The Quotes of George W. Bush have been a subject of a lot of jokes in the past years of his presidency. The following list has the 50 Dumbest Things George W. Bush Has Ever Said.
I must say, that the list contains some quotes where i’m a bit hard pressed to point out what really went wrong. It seems that people / journalists also really want GwB to make mistakes.
The thing that has always suprised me is that you would think that a president of the USA, having had to campaign for that same presidency, would not be caught with such an extensive list of quotes. I would expect him to have mastered the art of presenting, even if all questions and speeches are written beforehand. But even in that case, there must always be times where you’ll have to answer without having the complete text written out before hand.
Some interesting quotes:
“I wish you’d have given me this written question ahead of time so I could plan for it…I’m sure something will pop into my head here in the midst of this press conference, with all the pressure of trying to come up with answer, but it hadn’t yet…I don’t want to sound like I have made no mistakes. I’m confident I have. I just haven’t — you just put me under the spot here, and maybe I’m not as quick on my feet as I should be in coming up with one. –after being asked to name the biggest mistake he had made, Washington, D.C., April 3, 2004
What went wrong there? He got a question he couldn’t reply to at that moment. Well, there must be lot’s of ways to bypass that question. In this case he should probably have just told the reporters he couldn’t name anything right there, and not go much farther than that. Easier said than done probably, because i do not know if those same reporters would have let them get away with this. That is probably also the hard part of being president.. people expect you to have an answer to everything.
4. “Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we. –Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004 (Watch video clip)
Well, not much to say here.. just a mistake in the comparison. Instead of saying “neither do we” he should have said “and we never stop thinking of new ways to protect our country and our people”.. A honest mistake.
And the last:
“Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job. –to FEMA director Michael Brown, who resigned 10 days later amid criticism over his handling of the Hurricane Katrina debacle, Mobile, Ala., Sept. 2, 2005 (Listen to audio clip; watch video clip)
Well, this one went wrong in different ways.. Using the nickname “Brownie” is not something i would have chosen to do. It seems a bit derogative. The fact that he praises the man, days before his fall.. well that could be just bad information or a direct attempt on his part to keep it all covered up. We’ll never know.
In all, i think everyone can keep bashing GW, but lets us look at the bright side. Some of his quotes are pretty funny to read…
