This story is amazing. A 22-year old was stopped from flying to his family twice (!!) based on the book he was reading.
The first time it was Hayduke Lives! by Edward Abbey, the second time: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The last time the final reason given was “he made a joke about bombs”..
I don’t know what’s happening, but if you can’t even take a normal book on the flight, where is this all going?
Most airports allready implemented rules about taking on liquids. These are the rules when flying within Europe, to the US and to Mumbai from Schiphol (amsterdam):
Hand baggage rules for flights within Europe, the USand Mumbai (India)
You must present all liquids separately at the hand baggage security checkpoint. For the transparent plastic bag applies that the packages have to fit into it easily and the bag has to be sealed. You will also be asked to present coats, jackets and large electrical appliances, such as laptops, separately at the hand baggage security checkpoint. These are the rules for liquids in your hand baggage:
- you are only permitted to take liquids and gels with you in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres each
- these containers must be packed in a transparent plastic bag
- the maximum allowance is one transparent plastic bag per person
- the capacity of the transparent plastic bag may not exceed 1 litre
- the transparent plastic bag has to be re-sealable
- you can bring a suitable plastic bag with you from home
The following are always permitted:
Baby food for use throughout the entire trip.
Medicines for use during your trip.
Some time back there were also a lot of stories about limits to taking your photography equipment on board. Luckily this seems to have settled a bit, at least i can’t find anything on the schiphol / klm site for instance. However, this is definitely something to check before boarding.
