The last few days / weeks I have noticed an amazing increase in stories about police brutality. Quite a few of these are relating to tasers. In quite a few of these cases, the story is about a police officer who fires into or hurts people you would not expect: elderly, people following orders..
This made me think of a quote by Orwell “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. The current rise of terrorism, and the additional powers given to law enforcement officers under these anti-terrorism laws seems to bring out the absolute worst in some cases. Isn’t it time to stop this?
Law enforcement officers are there for the protection of the public, and not there to satisfy sadistic needs, or whatever reason they need to “torture” innocents.
A small list of stories about brutality:
- Hogtied and tasered
- A 22 year old is killed by a taser, the cop conveniently switched off the video equipment.
- Plainclothes policemen taser a man thrice, then shoot him dead.
And these are only three stories.. Many more come out on a almost daily basis.. Let this stop!!
edit:
This is the video of the student getting tasered. It seems to me he was just struggling a bit and screaming. If 7 cops can’t control a young man unless they taser him, well.. than it’s time to get those cops fired….
