Control another computer with ShowMyPC.com

Lifehacker pointed me to this great tool. Showmypc.com. Just go to the website, dowload the program and connect to your helping hand on the other site of the planet.

The program is for Windows, however using Wine you can even get it to work on a linux computer linking to a Windows Pc

So, how does it work:

What is ShowMyPC?: This is an open source Remote PC access project, an alternative to subscription based sites like WebEx or Gotomypc. ShowMyPC uses SSH port forwarding mechanism using Open Source SSH client plink and VNC Remote access software. Users can use their own middle SSH server or use our Hosting plans. No registration, no logins, all open and free.

Basically, the hosting pc creats a ssh server configured with the password generated by the program.

  1. That’s pretty cool. Another one I’ve been using with great success is Yugma – http://www.yugma.com . Super easy. You get remote control, ability to invite up to 10 other people for free. I like the other features too, like whiteboard. Woth a try.

  2. Tried this software too. Site looks nice, but the software seems to be too big in size, plus you have to register and all the hastle. If you are looking for a ‘drive by’ quick and light screen sharing service, so far, I have found http://www.showmypc.com to be the best of the bunch.

  3. Great to see that you both seem to be applauding your own software. I’ll be checking out the both. Haven’t had the chance to use Yugma yet, but show my pc worked when used on my parents pc.
