Today we went on a trip of the country site, to get a feeling for some of the telecommunications equipment the client had made. A great opportunity to see some more of
Trinidad. The first thing you notice is that there are posters for the Soca Warriors (T&T Soccer team everywhere). This is the first time they are playing in the World Cup and the country has gone completely mad. Good to see the amount of support generated for the team. It is the first thing you see everyday on the newspapers, loads of cars flying flags.. and posters and billboards.
Well, back to the trip. We got picked up around 9:15, a bit later than expected, but something had gone wrong in the planning. And on we went. It also started to rain, it is the beginning of the rainy season. And if it rains here, it sure rains. Roads starting to flood, like that. Trinidad is quite a green country. Loads of bananatrees, and palmtrees. The road got smaller and smaller,
twisting and turning up de hills, but finally we got to the destination. We looked around and then it was time to go back to town. Another long drive..
Work at the office was regular. Things are a bit different here, so that is a bit hard sometimes. But I am getting used to it. The people are very friendly and willing to help out. So that is good.
Afterwards dinner at a chinese restaurant. The waiter heard us speak dutch and then asked what language that was. When we said it was dutch he lit up and shaking hands and all… Very friendly. I think Leo Beenhakker is the current coach of Trinidad.. so maybe that had something to do with it. When we left he asked us why we were here and not in Germany…
Then on to 51 Degrees, a club here for a comedy night. We had been warned that there was a strict dresscode, however, my colleague thought he could get trough on his sneakers and t-shirt saying he was a tourist… The guy at the door was very friendly but strict so we had to return to the hotel. The colleague was suprised… but hey.. rules are rules. I had a good laugh about it, and told everybody at the clients the next day
So back to the hotel and then back to the club again. This time no problems getting in. The doorman even seemed to remember us
Well as i said, it was comedy night, the comedian was local. Very good as far as i could understaand it. Trini’s speak very, very quickly and have their own accent, so that made it a bit difficult sometimes.
The club was good… at around 11 pm we went back to the hotel. The cab we had ordered before was waiting and took us back. Quickly to bed. Tomorrow will be the last day here, and there is still quite a lot to do.
